Everything to know about solar shades.
Product overview
Solar shades use specially engineered screen fabrics to manage sunlight without fully closing a room off from the view outside. The fabric openness factor influences visibility, glare control and privacy: a more open weave provides a clearer view, while a tighter weave offers stronger sun control and greater daytime privacy.
Why choose solar shades?
They are particularly valuable on south- and west-facing windows, where direct sun can make a room uncomfortable or create glare on televisions and computer screens. Solar shades create a calm, uniform appearance while helping interiors feel cooler and more usable throughout the day.
Available options
Choose from several openness levels, neutral and designer colours, interior or exterior-rated fabrics, manual or motorized controls, and optional cassette or fascia finishes. Darker fabrics typically improve outward visibility, while lighter colours can soften the appearance of the window and reflect more heat.
Where they work best
Great rooms, home offices, kitchens, sunrooms, high-rise windows, commercial offices and any space with strong sunlight or valuable views. Because screen fabrics are not designed for nighttime privacy, they are often paired with drapery or a secondary room-darkening shade.
Professional measuring and installation
Every project begins with a careful review of your windows, the way the room is used and the performance you expect. The Blind Shop provides professional measuring, product guidance and installation so the finished treatment fits, operates and looks exactly as intended.
